If your baby is due before 2027, this is your sign to start thinking about your 3D/4D ultrasound!
Fall is officially here, and for many moms expecting a baby before the end of the year, that means you're entering one of our favorite stages of pregnancy for seeing baby in 3D.
When Is the Best Time for a 3D Ultrasound?
At Baby Bloom Ultrasound, we typically recommend scheduling your 3D/4D ultrasound around 25–28 weeks for some of the best views of baby's face.
During this stage, baby is starting to fill out and those tiny facial features — their nose, lips, cheeks and profile — are becoming much more defined. At the same time, baby generally still has enough room for us to capture different angles and plenty of movement.
And if you're already past 28 weeks, don't count yourself out! We see beautiful babies well into the third trimester. As baby gets bigger, however, positioning and the amount of space around their face can make images a little more unpredictable.
Due in October, November or December?
Then your 3D ultrasound window is now.
It's easy to think you have plenty of time when your due date still feels months away, but those last weeks of pregnancy move quickly. By the time maternity photos, baby showers, nesting and all of the holiday plans begin filling your calendar, your ideal ultrasound window may have already passed.
Booking during Q4 also gives you the chance to see just how much baby has changed since your anatomy scan — and get another look at that little face before you finally meet in person.
What Can You See During a 3D/4D Ultrasound?
Every baby and every appointment is different, but depending on baby's position, you may catch:
Their little nose, lips and cheeks
Yawns and stretches
Hands up by their face
Smiles, smirks and funny expressions
Baby opening their eyes
Tiny movements happening in real time
Sometimes we even capture a feature that becomes instantly recognizable once baby is born.
Make It Part of Your Final Months of Pregnancy
Pregnancy can feel long while you're in it — and then suddenly you're packing a hospital bag and counting down the days.
